Remove AI Label

Remove AI metadata before posting to Reddit

Reddit does not apply a platform-wide AI label. The pressure comes from communities and users: many subreddits ban AI images or require flair, and readers routinely download files and inspect the metadata themselves.

There is also a straightforward privacy case, Reddit is pseudonymous, and a camera serial number links every photo you post to one device.

How Reddit handles AI metadata

  • Individual subreddits set their own AI rules, from outright bans to mandatory flair.
  • Users check metadata manually, and posting a Stable Diffusion PNG with intact parameters is how most "this is AI" callouts begin.
  • Reddit strips some metadata on upload but the behaviour differs between the site, the app and direct image hosts.
  • A camera serial number is a strong deanonymiser across a pseudonymous account’s whole post history.

Questions

Reddit metadata FAQ

›Does Reddit detect AI images?

Reddit itself does not apply a sitewide label. Detection in practice comes from moderators and users inspecting the file, which is why intact Stable Diffusion parameters are such a giveaway.

›Should I remove metadata to get around a subreddit AI ban?

That is between you and the community’s rules, and stripping metadata does not make a rule not apply. The clearer uses are privacy, removing GPS and your camera serial from a pseudonymous account, and avoiding a false accusation on a photo you actually took.

›Can my camera serial number identify me on Reddit?

It can link posts to each other. Every photo from the same body carries the same serial, so an otherwise anonymous account can be tied together, and to any other place that camera’s photos appear with your name on them.
