Remove AI Label

Free · no upload · no account

Why your Facebook post says AI content

Facebook runs the same provenance pipeline as Instagram, both are Meta: so the trigger is identical: a C2PA manifest or XMP generation tag left in the file you uploaded. What differs is where the label shows up and how it behaves once a post is live.

Clean the file before posting. Reading and stripping both happen in this tab.

How Facebook differs from Instagram

The detection is shared, but the surface is not. On Facebook the notice usually appears as an “AI info” entry in the post’s context menu rather than as a badge on the image itself, which is why people often discover it late, a viewer mentions it, or it shows on the Page but not in your own feed view.

Facebook also surfaces content credentials more fully. Where a C2PA manifest is present and valid, the post can display who signed it and when, which is useful provenance for a news photo and unwelcome on a product mockup that happens to have passed through Photoshop.

  • Personal posts: label is applied at upload from file metadata.
  • Page posts: same, and more visible to your audience because Pages show the context menu more prominently.
  • Ads: creative goes through the same read. A labelled ad creative is worth catching before spend starts.
  • Shared links: the preview image comes from the destination site, so you cannot clean it from here; fix it at the source.

The fix

Removing the label before you post

  1. 1

Work from the export, not the original

The marker is written by whatever edited the file last. Clean the JPEG or PNG you are about to upload, not the raw file it came from.

  2. 2

    Inspect first

Drop it in above. You will see whether the trigger is C2PA, XMP, or an EXIF Software field naming an AI editor, which tells you which part of your workflow introduced it.

  3. 3

    Strip and re-upload

Facebook does not re-evaluate an existing post, so a live post has to be deleted and re-posted with the cleaned file.

Fix the workflow, not just the file

If every export from one app carries a marker, the app is the cause. Checking a single sample tells you whether to clean every file or change one export setting, which is much less work over a campaign.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

›Why does my Facebook post say AI content?

Because the uploaded file still contained a C2PA manifest or XMP generation tag. Meta reads these at upload across Facebook, Instagram and Threads. It reflects what the file declares, not a judgement about your pixels.

›Can I remove the AI label from a post that is already live?

Not in place. Facebook applies the label at upload and does not re-evaluate afterwards. Delete the post, clean the file, and post it again.

›Is the Facebook label the same as the Instagram one?

Same detection, different presentation. Facebook typically shows it as an "AI info" entry in the post context menu, Instagram as a label nearer the post. Cleaning the file handles both.

›Does this affect Facebook ads?

Ad creative goes through the same metadata read, so a labelled image can carry the notice into your ads. It is worth checking creative before a campaign rather than after.
