Remove AI Label

Remove the AI-generated label on TikTok

TikTok shows “contains AI-generated media” when it reads C2PA content credentials or XMP generation tags in what you upload. On TikTok that is usually not the video at all, it is the cover image: a Photo mode still or a carousel slide.

Clean those stills before you post. Everything happens in this tab; no file is uploaded.

What to remove

The surprise

Why TikTok labels videos you filmed yourself

TikTok reads provenance metadata on upload, and it checks more than the video track. The cover image is a separate file with its own metadata, and Photo mode posts are plain image uploads. A video shot on your phone can end up labelled because of a cover you made in Canva.

CapCut is the most common source. Several of its effects, AI background removal, auto-enhance, some templates and transitions, write provenance into exported stills. The footage is real; the export declares that an AI tool touched it.

TikTok also honours self-declaration. If you toggled the “AI-generated content” switch when posting, the label comes from that setting rather than from your file, and no amount of cleaning will remove it.

Check the toggle before you blame the file

TikTok remembers the AI-content switch between posts for some accounts. If the label appears on every upload regardless of which file you use, check that toggle in the posting screen first, cleaning metadata will not override a self-declaration.

The fix

How to remove AI-generated content labels on TikTok

  1. 1

    Export your cover image separately

In CapCut or Canva, export the cover frame as its own JPEG or PNG rather than letting TikTok grab a frame. That gives you a file you can actually inspect.

  2. 2

Clean the cover and every still

Drop the cover, any Photo mode images and every carousel slide into the tool above. Carousels are checked slide by slide, so one missed slide labels the whole post.

  3. 3

    Confirm the toggle is off

On the posting screen, check that the AI-generated content switch is off if your content is not AI-generated. This is separate from metadata.

  4. 4

    Upload the cleaned files

Set the cleaned image as your cover explicitly, rather than letting TikTok auto-select a frame from the video.

What gets checked

Which parts of a TikTok post carry metadata

Upload typeCarries metadata? Can this tool clean it?
Cover imageYes: JPEG or PNG with full metadataYes
Photo mode stillsYes, ordinary image uploadsYes
Carousel slidesYes: each slide read separatelyYes, as a batch
Video trackSometimes: MP4 can carry its own C2PANo, images only
Self-declaration toggleNo, it is an account settingNo, change it when posting

The honest limit is the video track. MP4 and MOV files can carry C2PA in their own box structure, and an image tool cannot reach it. If your cover and stills are clean, the toggle is off, and the label still appears on a video post, the marker is in the video container and you would need a video-aware tool.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

›How do I remove the AI-generated label on TikTok?

Clean the cover image and any Photo mode or carousel stills before uploading, and make sure the AI-generated content toggle is off on the posting screen. The label usually comes from C2PA or XMP in the cover, not from the video.

›What does "contains AI-generated media" mean on TikTok?

It means TikTok found provenance metadata declaring that an AI tool was involved, or you declared it yourself with the posting toggle. It does not necessarily mean the whole clip was generated, a single AI-assisted edit in CapCut is enough to write the marker.

›Why does my CapCut export get labelled?

Several CapCut features, AI background removal, auto-enhance and some templates, write content credentials into the export. The footage you filmed is real, but the exported file now declares that an AI tool touched it, and TikTok reads that declaration.

›Can you clean the video itself, not just the cover?

No. This tool handles JPEG, PNG and WebP only. MP4 and MOV use a different container structure and can carry their own C2PA, which we do not currently parse. We would rather say so than let you assume a video is clean.

›Does TikTok check every carousel slide?

Yes, each slide is read on upload. Cleaning only the first slide is one of the most common reasons a label persists after someone thinks they have fixed it. Run the whole set through as a batch.
