XMP remover
XMP is Adobe's XML metadata block, and it has become the default home for AI generation data. Midjourney writes prompts and seeds here. Adobe writes creator tools and source type declarations.
It is also where trainedAlgorithmicMedia lives, a formal machine readable statement that an image is AI generated.

What is in it
Fields that matter
- Iptc4xmpExt:DigitalSourceType
- A controlled vocabulary value.
trainedAlgorithmicMediadeclares AI generation in a way any parser can read. - xmp:CreatorTool
- The software that produced the file, often naming the AI feature directly.
- Generation parameters
- Prompt text, seed, model identifiers and guidance values, written by several generators.
- xmpMM:History
- A list of edit steps, which can describe your whole workflow.
- dc:creator, dc:rights
- Creator and rights statements. Often worth keeping, which AI markers only mode does.
Why checkers miss it
XMP is where one sided tools fail
Many checkers only look for C2PA. A file carrying no manifest but a full XMP block with a prompt, a seed and a source type of trainedAlgorithmicMedia will be reported as clean by those tools, and then labelled by the platform anyway.
We audited the market leader and found exactly this: a file with AI tags in XMP and GPS in EXIF was reported as having zero metadata.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
›What is XMP metadata?
Extensible Metadata Platform, an XML block Adobe defined for storing metadata in files. It carries creator information, edit history, rights statements and, increasingly, AI generation parameters.
›Can people read my prompt from XMP?
Yes, if your generator wrote it there. XMP is plain XML, so the prompt and seed are readable in any text editor.
›What is trainedAlgorithmicMedia?
An IPTC digital source type value meaning the content was produced by an algorithm trained on data. In practice it is a formal declaration that an image is AI generated.
›Does removing XMP delete my copyright?
In Everything mode it removes rights statements stored in XMP. AI markers only keeps them while removing generation tags.
