Content Credentials on Behance portfolios
Behance is an Adobe property, and Adobe built C2PA. It surfaces Content Credentials on projects, and it also offers creators a way to declare AI use deliberately.
That makes Behance the one platform where the right answer is often to keep your provenance rather than strip it. This page covers both directions.

How it behaves
How Behance handles AI metadata
- Behance reads and can display Content Credentials attached to uploaded work.
- Adobe tools write C2PA by default, so a Photoshop or Illustrator export usually arrives with a manifest already attached.
- Behance also has its own creator-declared AI tagging, separate from what is in the file.
- Because this is a portfolio audience, provenance can be an asset. A manifest showing a human edit history is evidence of craft, not a liability.
What writes it
Behance features that embed metadata
- Photoshop Generative Fill, writes partial-edit credentials onto otherwise hand-made work.
- Adobe Firefly, writes credentials plus an IPTC source type.
- Lightroom exports, carry edit history and sometimes a manifest.
- Illustrator and Express, add their own creator-tool tags.
Where it is read
Which uploads carry metadata
- Project images
- The main upload, read for Content Credentials.
- Project cover
- A separate image and the most visible one.
- Profile and banner
- Often an Adobe export carrying a manifest.
Who hits this
Common situations
Designers using Generative Fill sparingly
A manifest that says an AI tool touched the file does not distinguish a small background extension from a generated image. That ambiguity is the reason many designers strip it.
Illustrators proving human authorship
Here the opposite applies. An intact edit history is evidence. Use AI markers only, or keep the manifest entirely.
Studios with client NDAs
XMP edit history can expose a workflow or an internal filename. Worth checking before publishing client work.
Honest limits
When cleaning will not solve it
- Stripping credentials does not change Behance's own creator-declared AI tag, which you set yourself.
- If you want to prove authorship, removing provenance works against you. Decide which problem you have.
Questions
Behance metadata FAQ
›Does Behance show Content Credentials?
Yes. Behance is an Adobe property and surfaces Content Credentials where a valid C2PA manifest exists on uploaded work.
›Should I remove C2PA from my portfolio work?
Not always. On a portfolio, a manifest showing a genuine human edit history is evidence of craft. The case for removing it is when a small AI-assisted step makes largely hand-made work read as AI-generated.
›Does my Photoshop file already have a manifest?
Probably. Adobe tools attach Content Credentials by default in recent versions, and it is a preference you can turn off at export.
›Can metadata expose client information?
It can. XMP edit history and IPTC fields sometimes carry internal filenames, studio names and job references. Check before publishing work under NDA.
