Remove Stable Diffusion metadata from PNG files
Stable Diffusion stores your entire generation recipe in plain text inside the PNG, prompt, negative prompt, sampler, steps, CFG scale, seed, model name and model hash.
This is the most complete metadata leak of any generator. Anyone with your PNG can reproduce your output exactly.

What is in the file
What Stable Diffusion writes into your image
| Field | Contents |
|---|---|
| parameters | Prompt, negative prompt, steps, sampler, CFG, seed, size, model |
| Model hash | Identifies the exact checkpoint you used |
| Software | AUTOMATIC1111, Forge or whichever UI produced it |
| LoRA / embedding names | Any additional networks referenced in the prompt |
What it reveals
What someone with your file can learn
- Your complete prompt and negative prompt as readable text
- The exact checkpoint and any LoRAs, by name and hash
- Seed and sampler settings, enough to reproduce the image bit-for-bit
- Which UI and extensions you run, which fingerprints your setup
Worth knowing
Stable Diffusion workflow notes
- Converting the PNG to JPEG drops the text chunks, but re-compresses your image. Stripping the chunks keeps the PNG lossless.
- The
parameterschunk is plain tEXt, so it survives most copying, syncing and upload paths that do not deliberately strip it. - Some UIs also write a compressed zTXt copy. We remove those too, though we do not currently inflate them for display.
Questions
Stable Diffusion metadata FAQ
›How do I remove Stable Diffusion parameters from a PNG?
Drop the PNG into the tool above. The tEXt, zTXt and iTXt chunks holding your parameters are removed, leaving IHDR, IDAT and IEND, the image data itself, untouched and not recompressed.
›Can someone recreate my image from the metadata?
With the same checkpoint, yes, effectively exactly. The seed, sampler, CFG and model hash together are a complete recipe. This is the strongest practical reason to strip metadata from Stable Diffusion output you publish or sell.
›Does converting PNG to JPEG remove the parameters?
It does, because JPEG has no tEXt chunks. But it also re-compresses your image and loses PNG transparency. Stripping the chunks is lossless and keeps the format.
