Clean Daraz listing photos before upload
Daraz sellers across Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Myanmar overwhelmingly shoot product photos on a phone, at home or in a small shop. Those files carry GPS coordinates and device identifiers straight into a public listing.
That is the practical risk here, more than any AI badge.

How it behaves
How Daraz handles AI metadata
- Daraz does not apply an AI label to listings. The exposure is privacy and device fingerprinting rather than provenance.
- Phone photos carry precise coordinates, the device model, and a timestamp. For a home-based seller that is a home address published alongside a phone number.
- AI background removal is widely used to meet white-background requirements, and writes provenance into the result.
- Listing images are routinely copied by other sellers, carrying your metadata with them.
What writes it
Daraz features that embed metadata
- Phone camera GPS, the main concern, on by default on most devices.
- AI background removal apps, used to produce white backgrounds cheaply.
- AI upscalers, used when the original photo is low resolution.
- Canva and mobile design apps, used for banner and promo images.
Where it is read
Which uploads carry metadata
- Product gallery images
- Shot on a phone, so most likely to carry GPS.
- Shop banner and logo
- Usually a Canva or mobile app export.
- Campaign and promo creatives
- Same pipeline, published more widely.
Who hits this
Common situations
Home-based sellers
A listing photo taken in your living room publishes your home location next to your seller contact details. Switching off location in the camera app stops new photos recording it but does nothing for the ones you already have.
Resellers and dropshippers
Images copied from a supplier carry the supplier's metadata, which can expose sourcing you would rather keep private.
Small shops
Device fingerprinting links every listing across multiple seller accounts back to one phone.
Honest limits
When cleaning will not solve it
- Cleaning a file does not remove copies already scraped or reposted by other sellers.
- Turning off camera location prevents the problem going forward. This tool fixes the backlog.
Questions
Daraz metadata FAQ
›Does Daraz label AI-generated images?
Daraz does not apply an AI badge to listing images. The practical reason to clean them is privacy: phone photos carry GPS coordinates and device identifiers into a public listing.
›Why is GPS on my product photos a problem?
Most Daraz sellers photograph stock at home. The coordinates in those files identify a residential address, published next to your seller contact details.
›How do I stop my phone adding location to photos?
Turn off location access for the camera app in your phone settings. That prevents it for new photos. Photos you have already taken keep their coordinates until you strip them.
›Does background removal affect my images?
Background removal apps write provenance into the export saying an AI tool was used. The product is real, the file says an AI tool touched it, and cleaning removes that declaration without altering the picture.
