Remove AI Label

Remove AI metadata from Snapchat exports

Snapchat itself rarely shows an AI badge. The problem appears after you save a Snap and cross-post it, usually to Instagram, where Meta reads the provenance that Snapchat's AI features wrote into the file.

Clean the saved still before it goes anywhere else.

What to remove

How it behaves

How Snapchat handles AI metadata

  • Snapchat AI Lenses, Dreams, Enhance and generative backgrounds write provenance into the image you save to your camera roll.
  • The Snap you sent looks fine inside Snapchat. The saved file is a separate export, and that is the one carrying markers.
  • Cross-posting to Instagram, Facebook or Threads hands Meta that file, and Meta reads C2PA and XMP on upload.
  • Saving to Memories and then exporting later produces the same result, because the provenance was written at capture or edit time.

What writes it

Snapchat features that embed metadata

  • AI Lenses, the most common source. Generative lenses write creator-tool tags into the export.
  • Dreams, fully generated imagery of you, marked accordingly.
  • Enhance and AI backgrounds, applied to a real photo, which produces the classic false positive.
  • My AI image replies, saved images from the assistant.

Where it is read

Which uploads carry metadata

Saved camera roll stills
The file that actually carries metadata. Clean this one.
Memories exports
Same provenance, written when the Snap was created.
Spotlight submissions
Image posts are read like any other upload.
Public Profile covers
Often designed in Canva, which writes its own markers.

Who hits this

Common situations

Creators cross-posting to Reels

A Lens-edited Snap saved and re-posted to Instagram is the single most common way an otherwise ordinary clip picks up an AI Info label.

Local businesses

Promo stills made with Enhance carry an AI marker into a Facebook Page post, where it reads as a claim about the business rather than about the filter.

Spotlight entrants

Worth checking a sample before a batch submission, since the same export path affects every file.

Honest limits

When cleaning will not solve it

  • Cleaning the saved still does nothing about a video track, which this tool cannot read.
  • A screenshot of a Snap removes metadata but costs resolution and adds your device profile.
  • If Snapchat ever applies a label inside its own app based on its own records, no file edit affects that.

Questions

Snapchat metadata FAQ

›Does Snapchat add AI metadata to saved photos?

Snapchat AI features including Lenses, Dreams and Enhance write provenance into the image you save to your camera roll. The Snap inside the app is not the issue; the saved export is.

›Why does my Snapchat photo get an AI label on Instagram?

Because Instagram reads the C2PA or XMP that Snapchat's AI feature wrote into the saved file. Snapchat does not show the label, Meta does, and it is reading a file Snapchat produced.

›Should I screenshot instead of saving?

A screenshot does remove metadata, but you lose resolution and pick up your display colour profile. Saving the full export and cleaning it keeps the quality.

›Does this work on Snapchat videos?

No. This tool handles JPEG, PNG and WebP. A saved video can carry its own provenance that an image tool cannot reach.
